Get your 2019 off to the strongest ever start!

It’s 2019 and it’s the start of a brand new journey for you too. Of course, it’s also the traditional time of year to start thinking about resolutions and where you want to get to in the next 12 months. But with so many options open to you, everyone at Curves thought we’d help you home-in on some resolution ideas – as well as the kinds of strategies you can use to help you stick to them until you reach your goal.

One of the key elements we want you to focus on in the early part of the year is what does strength mean to you in 2019? Will it be a more positive outlook on life, a stronger body or is it about helping others to achieve their goals?

At Curves, we’ll support you to achieve everything you want to do. After all, a strong body can foster a strong mind – and if you’re inspiring and supporting other people too, this can only be a positive force in your life. With that in mind, we’ve created some handy hints to help you create your resolutions as well as how committing to strength training will make a huge difference to your 2019.

Be realistic

When you’re setting your goals. Don’t set yourself up to fail. Really think about why you want things to change or the long-term benefits of continuing to do what you’ve set out to achieve. Remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint, so try and come up with a resolution that will sustain you throughout the first part of the year – and ideally beyond.

Gain inner strength from strength training

Try something different. By mixing things up and changing the dimensions of any plan, it not only keeps you motivated, but it can change the way you think about your goals too. Our Curvettes have long benefitted from individually focused fitness plans, and when you add strength training into the mix, we can help you become strong in both body and mind. There are so many positive outcomes of strength training, including the fact that it increases your metabolic rate and calorie burn – even after you stop working out – and when this is combined with its proven benefits for bone repair and muscle stability, you can see why it’s so important to include in your goals for 2019.

Be positive

You’re not defined by one particular thing, so why let a missed workout, a clothing size or a number on a scale matter so much? Keep focusing on your overall goal, celebrate your achievements and encourage others to do the same. Also a positive outlook helps you in every aspect of life, so try and reach your targets by doing a little bit at a time, because when you take care of the little things, the big things will take care of themselves.

Don’t panic

If you miss out on a goal, there’s no need to worry. First of all, take stock of some of the reasons why you might not have achieved everything you wanted to. Was it a particularly busy time at work, or were there other life pressures affecting you at the time? Once you’ve identified some of the potential causes, the main thing is never to focus on what you didn’t do, but focus on everything you did. This strategy will benefit you not only in 2019 but for years to come.
