You might have been thinking of joining us for a while. But life gets in the way and you might even feel apprehensive about taking the plunge. If it’s your first time in a Curves gym, things can be a little bit daunting, but that’s where our expertise, friendly staff and the support from your fellow Curvettes all come into play.
Take the first step
If it’s been a while since you’ve last been to the gym, or even if you’re completely new to the world of working out, we have the knowledge and understanding to make your first visit feel as if you’ve been going for ages – enabling you to start benefitting right from day one. All you need to do is join us! When you walk-in, you’ll soon be met by one of our trained Curves Coaches, who will get to know you and what you want to achieve.
No judgement day
One of the great things about Curves is everyone’s there with the shared ambition of getting healthier and stronger – so that means you’re already on the same team! On your first day, you’ll receive a personal consultation with one of our expert coaches – they’ll even show you how each piece of equipment works – and together, you’ll start setting your own personalised goals. After this, you can schedule your first five workouts where your coach will ensure you’re trained on how to safely and efficiently use the Curves fitness equipment to get the best results – and reach your goals.
Your new social network
We know you’re here to reach your fitness milestones, but a social, supportive environment will also help you thrive. Building strong friendships – as well as strong muscle – is key to keep you motivated and coming back for more. As we’ve said, everyone at Curves has the shared ambition to get stronger and fitter, and it’s this sense of camaraderie that helps us support each other, encourage friends to join and make completely new friends that share your interests too. That way, you can keep each other on track and workouts can even seem that bit easier because you’re in this together!
The best way to get ready for your first day is to make sure you have the right fuel onboard. If you’re training in the afternoon, you should try and eat at least three hours before you start, or if it’s a morning session, you can have a quick snack – usually 30 mins before your workout starts.
Here are a few little hints of what to eat before – and after – your first day of training:
- Nuts and seeds (in particular chia seeds)
- Chicken breast or turkey breast
Eating after the gym is also a natural way to increase your training results. For increased effectiveness, choose foods that give you a higher protein intake and try to consume them within an hour and a half of the end of training. Thing like:
- Vegetable-based smoothie
- Hummus and raw vegetables
The all-important kit – What to take with you
Get the right kit and it’s one less thing to worry about! Comfortable clothing that enables you to move your arms and shoulders freely is the best choice. Ideally, make it a technical fabric that wicks away sweat from your body and bring another layer just in case you feel cold. A good sports bra is also a great idea and it’s worth investing in one that’s specifically fitted for you. Of course, don’t forget about your leggings or shorts and even your socks!
Choose the right shoes for the gym
Your trainers will offer comfort, stability and support, so they’re really important to get right. Go to a specialised store and describe what you need them for, and they’ll be happy to offer you a range of models to suit your needs and your budget. You can even buy a pair straight off the shelf in most places, but it’s important that you replace them as soon as they begin to wear.
It’s amazing how quickly you can go from your slightly nervous first day to feeling as if you truly belong at Curves! If you’re looking to take the first step and join our strong group of empowered women, please contact your nearest Curves club or book a free consultation now!
